 Two high school cheerleaders from Texas were shot in a supermarket parking lot while attempting to get into what they believed to be their car after practice. Instead, they entered the wrong car and encountered an altercation with the alleged gunman, who was sitting in the passenger seat. One of the cheerleaders, Payton Washington, was airlifted to a hospital and is in critical condition. The other cheerleader was treated and released at the scene. The suspected gunman, Pedro Tello Rodriguez Jr., was arrested and charged with deadly conduct, a third-degree felony. The incident occurred in Elgin, Texas, about 25 miles east of Austin. The cheerleaders were part of Woodlands Elite Cheer Company and were carpooling from Elgin to Austin for practice.
